    [guide] file management

I've rooted my phone and am interested in looking around and seeing what's going on in there! The only thing is I don't have much experience in a linux shell (though I used unix daily back in the day).

So - what I'd like to get a better feel for is file management in this adb shell. As I learn more, I'll post here, but if you have any tips/tricks/links, please share

A practical example to get started:

how do I grab boot animation of my card.

I've got ADB shell open on my PC, and my rooted droid connected. What am I doing wrong here:

    Code:
    # cd system/media
    cd system/media
    # ls
    ls
    bootanimation.zip
    audio
    # pull bootanimation.zip
    pull bootanimation.zip
    pull: not found
    # su pull bootanimation.zip
    su pull bootanimation.zip
su: access granted, courtesy of www.magicandroidapps.com
su: exec failed for bootanimation.zip Error:No such file or directory
    # su pull /system/media/bootanimation.zip
    su pull /system/media/bootanimation.zip
su: access granted, courtesy of www.magicandroidapps.com
su: exec failed for /system/media/bootanimation.zip Error:Permission denied
    #
do I need some hot chmod action, or?

    SU != Sudo
Spend the two bucks and download root explorer from the market. I was able to copy the bootanimation zip in about 10 seconds without having to ever having to touch ADB.

    Well worth my money.

I'll probably grab that app, thanks Randomocity.

That being said, I still wanna know how to do it the 'old fashioned way' :P

    Code:
    # sudo pull /system/media/bootanimation.zip
    sudo pull /system/media/bootanimation.zip
    sudo: not found
    lol!

I don't have any experience with adb but I think if you just loose "su" in front of your commands you'll be OK. If you have the "#" prompt, you should be root already.

ah, well apparently "pull" isn't on the phone... so when I try that from the shell it doesn't work.

if I do the same command 'locally', it works:

    Code:
    C:\droid\tools>adb pull /system/media/bootanimation.zip /myDir
    2325 KB/s (706924 bytes in 0.296s)

Is there a PC app that is the equivalent of the Root Explorer android app? Seems that'd be a lot more convenient for development.
