    Talking Planning to Root...HELP!!!

I am planing to root my motorola droid running Official Android 2.2.

I plan on rooting wtih Easy root if can buy it. Is this a good idea?

Then,if the easy root not possible, I plan on manually rooting it, if someone can give me a step by step link for this that would be awesome!

Big question...What happens if I brick my phone...Can I get out of it?

Other big question...Can I got back to official easily?

I've been looking at different posts and videos and it doesn't seem to difficult, but I don'y want to brick...but I have hacked a psp before so this seems much easier.

If anyone could help that would be the most incredible thing to happen this week...thanks!!!

Rooting is far from hard no matter the method you use. Some are just more steps. There have been some who have issues with easyroot, use it as your own risk. Your other option is to follow the "root/unroot" link in my sig. This method will require you to flash back to 2.0.1 via rsdlite and then flash a custom recovery(sprecovery to be exact). Once you have sprecovery you can install a rooted ROM and that gets you root. Before flashing any new ROM make sure to make a backup in recovery.

As far as bricking your phone, its almost impossible, and if it does become non functioning there is a way to recover it.

And going back to stock is as easy as rooting.

And check the first link in my signature for some advice and how-to's if you go through with it.

I had a much longer post but my browser ate it.

Personally I would not use one of the "One Button Root" apps. I like the idea of actually doing it myself. Gives you a much better understanding of how the phone works. Plus it really is easy. I was worried about it for a while before I rooted, but once I got in there and started I saw just how east it was. It doesn't take long at all. For me it took a while only because I have massive ADD, so once the phone was doing something I would go off and watch TV or look at something else on the computer. Only to remember later that my phone was doing something, and go back to see it had be sitting there finished for like 30- 40 minutes.

Does this smell like chloroform to you?

Off-topic and sorry for the hijack and I probably said it already, but I love that avatar. Scariest Vader ever, and you can't see it as small as it is there, because of the hello kitty (dis)gracing the regulator on his chest.

On topic -- what's said here is possibly the best reason for doing it yourself. Having control over the procedure means you know exactly what's happening and if something doesn't work you know what to ask for help with.

If you (or anyone reading this thread) went ahead and did it and use Easy Root, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S HOLY make sure you install Busybox as soon as possible.
