    Thumbs down deleting ringtones

Has anyone tried to use the ddms android sdk tool to delete stock ringtones? I can see them listed there. I am just afraid to delete them.

If you want to delete all of them you would mount the system partition read/write and type

    rm /system/media/audio/ringtones/*.ogg

to see what is available for removal

    ls /system/media/audio/ringtones/

    to remove a single ringtone

    rm /system/media/audio/ringtones/<filename>.ogg

If you don't know that this won't brick your phone then I wouldn't do it. People keep bricking their phones because they are too impatient to wait for a really good recovery method. Not meant to sound negative...

    i agree

yeah that's why i haven't tried to delete them yet. Also, you would need the proper permissions to delete them from this program anyways.

I have since deleted one stock ringtone and added my own to the system ringtone folder and so far no problems.

Used Root Explorer to change permission and used Eclipse and adb to add and delete

Yes. That is the main purpose of a backup, to recover from problems.

I used Root Explorer to delete them all. They're in /system/media/audio/ringtones. There is also /notifications, /alarms, etc. None of them are really all that big, I need all the space I can get.

You don't need root to "get rid of" system ringtones. "Ring Commander" (newly added to the market) can hide them away for you so that you'll never see them again. It can also restore them if you decide that deleting them was a mistake.
