    Deleting Apps

Ok so I did a search and cannot find how to do this. But I would like to delete things like facebook and twitter. I have rooted my phone and I have adb on my computer, but I need a guide on how to delete these items. Any help or direction to where I could find it would be greatly appreciated.

If you use Chevy's Simply Stunning, he has built-in scripts you can run from terminal emulator to enable/disable the stock apps.

If you want to do it manually, you need Root Explorer or something similar. In Root Explorer you can navigate to /system/app/, mount read/write, then start renaming the apps you don't want to load. It's better not to delete them in case you need to put them back, so just add ".bak" to a file such as "facebook.apk" to "facebook.apk.bak". Mount R/O again when you are done, then reboot the phone. The apps you renamed will no longer load. This is actually what Chevy's scripts do.

Remember to make a backup before doing this just in case you want to undo, maybe you accidentally delete something important.

If you don't want to run anyone's ROM, without scripts you can type into adb

    Code:
    adb shell
    su
    mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    cd /system/app
    ls
What you have done there is mounted the system as writable, allowing you to delete or modify stuff. Changed directories from / to /system/app (will save typing if you have more than one app you want to delete). "ls" will list the contents of the folder you are in, because you will need the exact name of the .apk capitalization and all.

    So onto the deletion:
    Code:
    rm Facebook.apk
    rm Twitter.apk
    rm Email.apk
You can type ls between each one to get an updated list.

After you are satisfied with your deletions type
    Code:
    mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    sync

Sorry I must not have caught my error when I typed this, there indeed is a typo. In the first section it is supposed to be
    Code:
    mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
Gonna edit my previous post to repair the mistake. Sorry again.
