Phone modding is not illegal, it's one of the few things that is considered 'open season' for hacking.
Void the warranty? Yes, if they catch you. Chance of that happening = slim to none. Returnable to original condition? Easily. Illegal? roflmao
I'd root that!

None to none. Rooting your phone doesn't void the warranty. The warranty is on the hardware, not the software. Read the VZW agreement.Chance of that happening = slim to none.

So... if you root your Droid and get caught and put in jail, can an iPhone user jailbreak you out?
#2. Malfunctioning Droids (or Droid chargers) are perfectly capable of overheating themselves, no assistance from overclocking necessary.
#3. If you needed to use your warranty, as I did once a couple months ago, it's pretty standard procedure to simply unroot the phone before showing it to them...
#4. You're probably both right. I don't think the warranty explicitly states that rooting voids it, but they could probably use it as a basis to blame you for the problem. But that would require 1) you being silly enough to bring it in rooted, and 2) them actually using your phone long enough to find out. And they usually don't even look.
im pretty sure they dont put people in prison for being smart and not using the crappy "official" stuff phone companies give you
