How do I change the permissions for otzcert.zip? I am only using terminal emulator.
I apologize ahead, I'm typing this on my Droid. But I believe what ur looking for is already here on the forum. U want to mount the mtdblock4 as rs. Then chmod 755 the file. Don't use rootexplorer cause it doesn't work. But here's the thing...later u still will get, there is a update. I have only gotten the notice twice LOL which is way better then 10 times a day download. When I get on the computer I post the actual commands.
Ok make sure you have the correct otacert as well. Its size is 1859 and the permissions should look like this.. rwxr-xr-x like I said I couldnt get it right in root explorer but then again maybe I wasnt given the right permission too. I hope this works for you. If you have the 99.3b recovery no worries it wont allow the update to go thru. I have been having other issues with my phone though and it really sucks with alldroid throw their little fits lol.
Also we all start at as a noob. Mine said the download button too. But after I did the reboot, I clicked the download button and it took longer to verify. Then a boxed popped up saying to update.
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
chmod 755 /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system

I actually deleted from otacerts.zip from my sd card, redownloaded it and put it back on the card. then I went through all the steps again.
I might have had the wrong version originally, though I'm not sure how, because I downloaded from the same place - the 1st page of the 'Rooted 2.1 getting 2.1 OTA Notification' thread
You think thats weird, yesterday I had to wipe my phone and reinstall. this time the update was only 15m not 69m. The fix was all the same after I changed the otacerts.zip to the 1859k file.
