which governer do you prefer? I just set all mine profile governer's to powersave. Anyone use conservative?
Powersave locks you in at the low speed more often than not.
Ondemand is fine. Although the kernel has its own omap profiles so I don't even know if these even actually make a difference.
Have you tested to see if it makes a difference?
Like I said, there are omap specific cpu profiles in the kernel as well as these default governors. I am unsure if they even work...
Someone else more schooled in the kernel than me will have to respond.
Alright, so in my kernel, these are the governors and how I have them set. Pretty much stock.
# CPU Power Management
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEBUG is not set
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_STAT_DETAILS is not set
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_POWERSAVE is not set
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_USERSPACE is not set
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_ONDEMAND is not set
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_CONSERVATIVE is not set
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_POWERSAVE is not set
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_GOV_CONSERVATIVE is not set
Now, there is another section in the kernel config that lists this:
OMAP Frequently Asked Questions - TI
18. What is Smart Reflex technology?
Answer: TI’s SmartReflex™ Power and Performance Management Technologies reduce power consumption and optimize performance. SmartReflex technologies are a broad range of intelligent and adaptive hardware and software techniques that dynamically control voltage, frequency and power based on device activity, modes of operation and temperature. Key features include:
The SmartReflex technologies approach is a holistic, aggressive way of reducing power while optimizing performance.
SmartReflex technologies cross traditional boundary lines in systems, coordinating multiple processing cores.
SmartReflex technologies alleviate chip-level leakage power dissipation at deep sub-micron process geometries.
SmartReflex technologies go well beyond traditional device power management techniques and feature plans for next-generation solutions.
TI has shipped hundreds of millions of devices with SmartReflex technologies.
Now what I was saying is, I don't know if that replaces the default governor's functions, or if it works in tandem with them.
I use ondemand. Not sure if I even notice a difference between it and conservative, but that's what I use.
