    Root Problem?

I have the Motorola Droid and I am trying to root the phone. When I get to the part where you select the update.zip file it says E:can't open / cache / recovery / command. The install says that it installed and has finished, so I go into the apps folder and the Superuser Permissions icon is not the Ninja with a sword. The icon looks like the Market place icon. So I went back to my phone and went to Mount and looked for the Cache folder under E: and there is no folder. What am I doing wrong?
