The Droid 2 Bootstrap works much better on Gingerbread, it is just an updated version of the Droid X one.

You don't necessarily need it though. You can use the Droid X one but you either need to have USB Debugging checked or unckecked (drawing a blank as to which because I always had the D2 one anyway). So cm give checked and unchecked a try to let us know if it works.

Yes it is running 2.3.3. I'll double check the usb debugging. I do know that when the usb was connected, it still didn't boot into recovery.

It doesn't need to be actually connected. Just have the option checked or unchecked on the phone.

Usb debugging is checked. Now I'm getting notification to upgrade from 4.5.605 to 621. Is it ok to update while rooted?

Well like I said I don't remember which it is supposed to be. And you could take the update if you haven't done anything to the phone since rooting. But a word or warning the newest update is not able to be rooted and you can't roll back to an older version once it installs either. You will be stuck there without root.

Rooting actually doesn't really do anything to the phone other then give you the ability to modify your phone. So just the rooting process does not stop OTA updates from being possible. However, if you uninstall/freeze anything, flash a custom recovery, or some other things the update will either fail or it will mess things up pretty bad for you.
