    Verizon blocking websites with tethering

Hey all, just want to know if anyone is experiencing same problem I am having. I am running an LG Revolution 4g that is rooted and running Wifi Tether v3 b2.

I have been blocked already with the native tethering app and have since been using the Wifi Tether app. Up until a day or two ago, everything was working fine. However, now I am seeing that I can't access a lot of websites on my computer that I used to have no problem with. It seems it is only default first pages, login pages or pages with media that i can not get to. If i know the URL to a page deeper within the site, I can access it.

My iPhones, which I tether to the LG also have problems getting certain information on apps. Such as images in the AP Mobile app and video as well.

Anyone else having similar issues? I also have the 3g Mifi from Verizon which I have connected to the phones and computer and do not have problems with the websites/apps when connected to it. So I know it's not a problem with my devices. Only thing I can think is Verizon is playing internet police.

This actually is a known issue, with the whole "teired data" thing going on now with Verizon. They have removed all tethering apps from the Market and are somehow blocking people from visiting websites when tethering.

@carfreek.. are you using a Droid 2? Because if so, you wouldn't have that problem since it's not a 4G phone.

@spc... anybody or anything you have read that provides a solution to the problem here? i am a firm believer in the fact that I already pay them for the data and I should be able to use it any way I see fit once it reaches my phone. at this rate, they will dictate you the consumer that if you bluetooth to a wireless headset and listen to pandora, rhapsody, etc, you are using a 'tethering' feature and they should be able to charge you for that as well. let me know if you know of any articles or info.

I agree. Or transferring files from your SD Card to a computer will be deemed illegal too

Here is just one article of many. However, there is a statement in this article that is false. In the article, it states that Verizon can remotely remove tethering apps from your device without your permission. This statement is completely false! Here is the article though that kind of explains the whole tethering thing.

    Verizon Tethering

It's no surprise that Verizon started this right before they start their teired data plans. They are simply trying to control bandwidth and save themselves some money. Don't be mislead though, tethering apps can still be downloaded (not from market) and installed and used. I use Wireless "Tether For Root Users" myself. From what I have heard, the blocked web pages tends to happen on only the newer phones (thunderbolt, revolution,droid3 and charge. maybe some others too). In my opinion, it seems like this also only applies to phones that are rooted but are still on the original stock ROM. I myself haven't heard of this issue happening with folks on custom roms.

Here's just another good article about it:

Hey thanks spc. Yeah, I was aware they couldn't remove the apps from you phone. I was, however, surprised they could push an update to my phone to disable functionality of apps without my knowledge. I believe this to be totally illegal. That would be the same as Microsoft automatically with out your permission sending an update to you Windows that disables all your printer drivers unless you paid them a $30/month fee that would allow you to print with Windows.

Problem is, and this is probably why there hasn't been much response, but I use a lot of band width. Just the other day, I downloaded the 10th season to E.R. from Amazon Unbox which I purchased a few years ago. That in and of itself was nearly 22 GB alone and was in one day. Just today, downloading the new iOS 5 beta and iTunes beta was over 2GB. And this is just two days worth. So they are on to me I am sure. Everyone I have read about is scared about going to 7GB on their 5GB and worrying about getting flagged.

I currently have 3 iPhones and two computers (one PC, one Mac) which are all connected via wifi to my LG Revolution 4G phone. I have not had any problems at all until three days ago. Suddenly, I was having problems getting to wesites. I would type in the URL and it would hang about half way loaded and stop. So I performed a few tests to make sure it wasn't something wrong with my phones or computers and sure enough, it is Verizon. I have filed a complaint with the FCC and will be looking for other sources of Government interventions to hopefully alleviate this problem. Because as it sits, now Verizon is censoring and blocking information. And I'm not for certain, but that sure seems like it is on the verge of being illegal to me.

You're using a service (tethering) which is against their TOS. If you don't like it, purchase a tethering package.

Well along the lines of your disabling printer drivers from your computer. they are a service provider and they also provide subsidized hardware. If i paid for internet and they gave me a top of the line (i use that term loosely) computer for 200 bucks. I would expect them to do whatever is in thier legal (again loosely) right with the hardware and software running on it. I dont like it but sadly that is the case. If a bunch of people demand this then it wont be a problem, again sadly that probably wont happen. The millions of people with iphones and android phone that just want a smartphone to have one, and only have 10 to 15 apps on it. They dont use tethering, they dont even know what that is. They dont know that you can root it or jailbreak it. Nor do they want to. I am a lone geek in my circle of friends. Any time i tethered my d1 to thier laptop they have been completely amazed that it is possible. Yet still when offered to root or jailbreak the phone dont want to do it because it seems like to much of a hassle or isnt that illegal. We are still a "small" community of people who want total control of our electronics. The other 90% dont care about it. They just want it to work. I could go on and on about this. But the singularity is upon us. Lets just hope its not owned by a company.
