Bootloader and recovery but not User GUI boot

Can the boot sector and O.S. be installed fresh? I have a phone that boots to the bootloader 2c.7c screen prompting me to connect usb data cable.

I tried flashing, loading a recovery update.zip and an SBF update.zip. The programs run but the boot problem does not resolve.

Obviously the "X" key works to start up the recovery but rebooting with the D up key the phone does not respond differently. Is it possible the keyboard driver is corrupt?

The problem all started when the phone got wet (mildly), it was booting to the user GUI a few times but battery crashed often. I'm thinking O.S. got hosed. Does this make sense?

I can't believe it's bricked because I can run the recovery software.

i'm not sure exactly what you mean...
you can get to the bootloader and recovery fine, but it won't boot the os?

have you tried flashing .sbf using rsd lite?
Using RSD Lite to flash an SBF file -- correctly
as long as you can get to the bootloader you should be able to totally reinstall the phones firmware. located here:
    http://wonderly.com/bb/DROID/OEM/VZW..._SW_UPDATE.sbf

if you can get to recovery you should be able to wipe everything and then flash any rom. maybe i'm not understanding...

Yes I am using RSD Lite. Thanks I'll try this sbf. Following the step on a post in one of these forums it says after flashing hold the directional up key on reboot to complete flash. Does this sound correct?

Just started the download and noticed your sbf is 144 MB. The one I have is only 7.88 MB. I let you know my results.

    I compressed sbf to update.zip using 7.zip
    copied to root of /sdcard
    unmounted sb card
    disconnected from computer
    Wiped data and cache
    Choose ROM from sd card
message: E: no tar archives found
tried leaving it mounted and connected - still get same error

User RSDLite to flash the .sbf file to your phone connected over USB (while the phone is in bootloader mode (power on while holding the D-pad towards the screen)).

.sfb's aren't flashable by the phone, only by a Windows PC.

Thanks will post results when I try again tonight. I keep missing the timing on the d-pad key

When I miss and it reboots to triangle, I need to re-flash with RSDLite, correct?

There's no timing issue if you hold the d-pad up (towards the screen) and while holding it, turn on the phone.

Once RSDLite forces your phone to reboot...you are done with RSDLite (no need to worry if it says 80% complete or such...the phone rebooting was what you were waiting for).

I see, it appears that when auto-reboot executes (by RSDLite flash?) the phone reboots before I have my finger on the d-pad up. If the RSDLite would only shutdown the Droid and not start it up automatically I'd have better success. Because as you write I could just position my finger on d-pad up and press on-button. BTW, this is like pressing the bios-access-key on a PC to access the bios at boot-up, no?

Flash the device with the .sbf file you received that was 114mb or whatever (the bigger one of the two you have).

that's it. Don't do anything, let the phone reboot. See if it boots to the GUI operating system. You can then flash the recovery later. Since your initial issue was the phone wouldn't boot....just flash the OS to see if the phone will reboot.

If you phone is on...turn it off. Hold d-pad towards the screen and power it on. Plug in the USB from phone to computer then run RSDLite and flash the .sbf file. When the phone reboots, let it. Don't do anything.......just see if your phone boots all the way to a functional device.

No timing issues, no nothing. Boot to bootloader, flash .sbf, let phone reboot.

Let us know what happens from that point.
