ROM Manager - Is it safe?

Hello, I want to install DarkyROM on my rooted Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (on 2.1-update1). Is ROM Manager safe to use? And how do I install the rom?
Can I just Wipe the dalvik Cache, Erase all data and cache, and backup my current ROM?.

Some of them require you NOT to wipe dalvik cache (like Liquid GB), but make a backup, If you have Titanium Backup, I would recommend backing up there too as its simple to restore your apps after installing a new rom.

Ok. I have already made a Titanium Backup to DropBox, but should I, or should I not wipe my Dalvik Cache? Is it dangerous to do it BTW?
BTW, Iīm in ClockWorkMod Recovery (or Android System Recovery 2e) now.

It's ROM specific. Some require it, some don't. I recommend you find the developers website and read up on the requirements.

    Yep, it sure is amazing.
Back to the case again... I donīt know how to fix threebutton combo. I canīt boot into download mode, or recovery mode via threebutton combo, only via ROM Manager.

Now I just tried to install DarkyROM.
First, I opened ROM Manager, then I selected Install ROM from SD Card, chose the update.zip file, Then a menu popped up, I selected "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and "Backup Current ROM" options.

It reboots my phone into recovery. Then I selects Apply sdcard:update.zip. It says:
    copy_common_data
    -- Install from sdcard...
    Finding update package...
    Opening update package...
    Installing update...

    Installation aborted.

Why canīt I install the ROM?
Well first of all I installed it from the ROM Manager Downloads folder (sdcard/clockworkmod/downloads/)
I rebooted into recovery to install.
Result: It doesnīt find the update.zip file.

Then I moved the file to the root of the sdcard...
Result: It still doesnīt find the file.

Then I renamed the file to update.zip instead of Darky_ROM.zip or something.

Result: It finds the package, but it wouldnīt install.

    Please Help!
