With supercharging, it initially runs better than without, but lag sets in really quickly. Without supercharging and no compcache, my phone runs well on SS 5.4 and LGB 2.1, but I have to sometimes restart Screebl and Swipepad (but I set those as gestures in ADW EX to access quickly. I don't recall ever really getting compcache to work well on any ROM. I feel lag sets in too quickly and I have to empty the cache to get performance back. I try to live without it by putting all games and nonessential programs on the SD card to free up memory.

I was looking at the memory level stated as internal storage when listing the amount available with LGB, which probably didn't list the ROM memory which according to TB is around 44MB currently.

I know that with Chevy's SS ROM, I wasn't sure how to uncheck lock home in memory as that option was active, but I could not turn it off in options (greyed out). I don't know if that affected my ability to use the script or not. There is probably something I did wrong, but I followed the instructions in the OP and the picture instructions in the post linked from there.

I mainly used the script to keep Screebl and swipepad active longer. I also wanted to keep Timerriffic enabled longer, but I've never been able to get that to work properly on any GB ROM. I have to manually turn the volume to vibrate as my profiles in Timerrific don't stick.

    mack19318 thanks for the info

Mohawk3 well there sure are alot of variables and not too many people report that kind of severe lag.
In fact some users go days without rebooting...
I know my phone is always very snappy but on occasion one will get all stupid and hang/fc and it really messes android up which usually means a reboot.
But in that case, the reason for the lag is obvious

Been experiencing the same (with update2) on my Droid and experimenting with changing different options to try to fix.

Currently using original script with balanced 3 and HTK launcher on CM 7.0.3 with Deprimed kernel # 19. JIT on. Compcache off. VM 40Mb.

I have a new Thunderbolt on the way, but probably need to stick it out with the Droid for about another week until the Thunderbolt is fully set to go.

Is there any sort of guide as to what each memory slot is used for? I know Slot 3 is for "Free RAM" but what does that mean, specifically - RAM allocated at boot for application use only (and not system use)? Beyond that I'm just running off numbers others have posted but am curious about trying other values.

FWIW, I'm a Windows developer with some understanding of memory management, looking to learn more about how Android handles this.

I experienced some of that lag a couple of guys were talking about...
I've been working on update 3 and the phone suddenly got laggy...
I've suspected a bug in script manager in the past so maybe it's back...
After a few minutes, it then got back to it's snappy normal self...

Then, probably because of the milestone's crappy kernel that we're stuck with, I got a hot reboot and the thing was VERY laggy after that...
Even WEIRDER... it seemed like the OOM killer was on vacation!
My ram got down to only 15 mb free and I checked my minfrees and it was at balanced 3 so I should have my usualy ~30mb free...

There must have been a serious internal error for this to happen but simply adjusting priorities and minfrees is just a coincidence... NOT the cause.

Anyway, instead of rebooting normally I pulled the battery for a 100% fresh boot and it's been fine.

Nevertheless, I'll probably have update 3 up later.
Hopefully it will help eliminate such occurances and Lenster's FC problem...

I do give a general overview of how it works in the OP under "History Part 1" but here are other links/sources of information...

Slot 3 has the most effect on free ram because I configured it that way
Well, not exactly... that is just the net effect after summing up all the factors involving androids memory management system.
On some roms, it may be slot 4 or slot 5.

But with supercharging, you KNOW it's slot 3 and you don't have to guess

    Update 3 is up...

    UPDATED June 25, 2011:
Added error check that exits script on any error
Tweaked OOM groupings/priorities (Froyo is the same as always, Gingerbread now takes into account Perceptible App)
    Improved Status Checker
ReReFixed!? userinit.sh now used as a launcher for 99SuperCharger - with a 2 minute delay! (This boot script fix HAS to work )
Fixed sysctl error on some phone configurations
    980 lines of code!
