Not sure what it is, but the last few days, my wifi connection gets dropped every 5-10 minutes, the up and down counters go to zero, and I need to stop/start the tether app to even see the SSId again from my computer. Rebooted phone and computer a few times, no luck. Tried changing the WEP and channel and power mode settings, no change.

Really stinks, this worked great for me up until a few days ago.

    Ideas? The log looks fine.

EDIT: the last time I upgraded was 1/28 using WirelessTetherPatcher-Overclock-v1.1.exe

Hey Peter ... I also have noticed the same thing, but I seem to have this problem, even in other roms (ie sholes) where the patcher was not even used ... I know that the latest version of wifi-tether was still a work in progress ... have you tried a fresh rom and a manual install of wifi-tether? Are you overclocked at all?

Nope, still running same ROM when i got the phone. It is a 2.01 phone rooted and running at 950MHz, but I downclocked to 550 to see if that was the issue. Maybe it happened less often downclocked, but still happened. It odd because all last week I used this for several hours a day without problems.

Oh also, the tether app does want to do an update to newer S/W but it fails. Is a new tether app available?

This is the latest he has published (also you can turn off the prompt for new updates in settings):

    http://android-wifi-tether.googlecod...re3_eclair.apk

To be sure you get it clean, uninstall wifi-tether, then

    adb shell rm -r /data/data/android.tether

Then install the new one. You'll have defaulted setttings again.

Also, reading the FAQ: FAQ - android-wifi-tether - Frequently Asked Questions - Project Hosting on Google Code
"What keeps killing tethering or turning wifi/GPS on during tether?
It's probably another application. The most common we've seen causing this issue is ShopSavvy. To prevent this from happening, open the Shop Savvy application and go to Settings->Privacy. If you see a "Find my location" setting and it is currently on, turn it off. "

I installed the new Locale app yesterday, I bet this is poking GPS, and reseting tethering. On Monday I'll test out this theory....

Good find, I do recall reading that before ... hadn't heard about Locale though, and I am running it myself ...

FYI, I uninstalled Locale (Version 1.0 really seems to have issues for me) and noticed I DID have shopsavvy installed. Ever since I got rid of both of those, not a single wifi tether disconnect!!

    FAQ works for me!

PS: To replace Locale, I downloaded Foxyring, it is free, and turns off my ringer based on location (work).

Good news ... I got rid of locale but also have shopsavvy ... although my disconnects have dropped completely since I removed locale
