But when I run adb devices I don't see any devices. Anything useful to do from this screen?
you need the dev driver from motorola. not sure how to get it.
I do have the dev drivers installed, adb still doesn't see the device in that mode.

    To repeat myself:
it's more likely that fastboot would be the tool to connect to the bootloader screen. recovery *may* eventually support adb, but it will have to be added (e.g., like amon_ra recovery or cm). no recovery mode yet has supported adb out-of-the box, so to speak.

i'd get in myself and take a look, but i'm already on thin ice for buying droid only 2 months after driving to b.c. for a canadian-spec Magic to use on at&t.

also, is anyone using a linux box for this or is everyone on windows?

I've used both Win 7 and Ubuntu 9.10 to connect to it.

Fastboot does not do anything with the Motorola bootloader. Basic commands such as ./fastboot reboot do not work.

Fastboot will probably not work without root access. I do have shell access with ADB, so I'm working as hard and as fast as I can with what i have.

Its hard to make out that image, does the droid recovery allow you to apply an update.zip or just factory reset? I realize if it does youd need the key to sign a zip but I was curious anyways. Thanks if you know.

well the bootloader that shipped with the G1 didn't support fast boot either.. had to switch to one that did..

Yeah, it is for updating the rom and wiping the phone.. and its not too big of a deal to wipe it.. when you sign back in to google it will sync all ur contacts, download and install all the apps u had installed, and even restore you wallpaper.. all u loose is ur icon setup on home and data in ur apps... pretty nice if u ask me.. hope that reinstalling the apps still works on rooted roms..
