    Terminal Emulator

Terminal Emulator, do I need it? If I do, why? I've seen in mentioned around here before, but the mentions were vague for someone like me who doesn't know what it's used for.

    Thanks

It is for running customs command style scripts. It is for root users. Each custom Rom has a set of custom scripts that will do certain things (block ads, install new looking dialer, clear cache, etc.). You do not need it if you are not rooted. It is similar to terminal on a mac computer.

I look at TE like the command prompt on your computer. It's a no-gui way to input linux(?) commands in to your phone. If you're not rooted you probably don't need it

That's what I kind of figured, but as of now I don't really see any need for it. Unless you guys know some useful commands...

What rom are you running? It is useful for certain roms. I use it with project elite 4 to install certain extras like miui dialer.

Bucking the stream here; I am. I see no need whatsoever for using a Terminal Emulator on your phone. I've had my A855 since 11/9/2009 and rooted it about 12/09/2009 and I _might_ have used a terminal emulator three times. Why? Because I'd rather use adb shell and my computer than try to type complicated syntax intensive commands on that tiny little keyboard.

And just for the record not EVERY rom has custom script commands included with them.

I have a problem with the Terminal Emulator

    I am rooted

I did watch the video on how to uninstall loaded apps

when I start the Emulator the top of the screen is not blank like the video

    it says:
    export PATH=/data/local/bin:$PATH:.
    # #

    when I enter the command:

    mount -o rw,remount /system

    it gives me this:
Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-type] device directory

    then I enter this:
    rm -r /system/app/Blockbuster.apk

it tells me failed file is read only

I have no idea where Im going wrong, or if its because the phone in the video is different from what Im using.

You're not changing the system to read/write sucessfully, that is why you get the "file is read only" message. Try this:

    Code:
    mount -o remount,rw /dev/null /system
    good luck
