    Adb

So i've resorted to using this guide because RSD lite is not cooperating.
Root the A855 without RSD Lite + make it ROM Ready

I'm stuck at step two, when pushing rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin to /data/local/tmp. i get the error
cannot stat 'rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin' : No such file or directory

i'm putting in the file name in right and its in the right place. I looked on the phone in a file manager and there are no folders in /data. I'm assuming this is the problem, and if so, how would i create the right folders in /data without root

If you have a Motorola A855 Droid 1, that folder exists on your phone. Which file manager are you using? There's lots of sub-folders in /data/ and I am surprised your file manager doesn't see them. Make sure that the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin file is on your pc in the exact same folder as adb.exe. The only other thing I can think of right now is to modify the command thusly:

    Code:
    adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
good luck and let me know if I have to modify my guide.

still no luck with that command. adb does find the device just so you know.

also, there is just one litte typo in your guide, on the second step it says ...ar5.bim
just letting you know in case someone is trying to copy/paste it

Edit: actually on my phone the only thing will show folders in /data is root explorer, so i guess the folders are there on the phone I'm trying to root

No problem. Your guide is great, I'm pretty sure it's a problem with how I installed the SDK. I couldn't push any files at all, so most likely a problem with the environment path I set up.

Ahhh yes, and this tiny tidbit tells me even more. Even though you have setup #PATH to include where the actual adb.exe file resides, this does not mean you can 'push' a file from your current directory, though your OP does give me pause about this as you said:
and its in the right place
By that did you mean that it was in the actual directory where the adb.exe file resides? Because even though I can run an adb shell command without having to 'cd' to the directory where it is, I CANNOT adb push without the file I want to push being in the exact dir where adb.exe resides.

okay so i have adb.exe in the tools folder at C:\android\tools

and i have all the files in there in the same spot.

    I have the #PATH set as C:\android\tools

So what am I doing wrong? and sorry if this is confusing.

Well if you have the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin, su, and Superuser.apk files in c:\android\tools then you weren't/aren't doing anything wrong. I guess this is one of those classic cases where they say YMMV (your mileage may vary).

    Thanks for the extra info.

    The fix for 'cannot open'!

I had this happen to me as well, the fix was to open Microsoft Security Essentials and 'Allow' the file (or whatever antivirus you have that quarantined the file).
