    Still have root after upgrade?

I have been reading a lot and i'm wondering about something. If I root my phone (currently has android 2.0.1 on it) and install busybox or debian to it and then install 2.1 when it is pushed to the droid from verizon will I have to have root to continue to run busybox or debian if the phone is no longer rooter?

Not if you disable ota updates.

Are ota updates the regular updates that are pushed to the phone? I've heard that if you do disable ota updates you can brick your phone.

Bricking your phone by disabling ota updates is unlikely, but just like anything else there is risk involved. You will probably lose root and busybox with ota updates to 2.1. Then you would have to wait for a new root exploit to be found in 2.1 before you could reinstall busybox.

So if I had debian installed and then lost root would I be unable to use it?

More than likely, but no one will know for sure until someone chances it with an ota upgrade.

Ok, that makes sense. Also wondering if anyone knows of a good guide to installing debian or some other linux os on the droid, I think I have most of the process figured out but I would like to know for sure and not accidentally brick my phone.

You have to hack your phone to disable updates.
