Any home replacement that copies stock layout/icons/folders & similar to stock?

I like the stock 2.2 home for Android on my Droid 1. I really, really, really dislike having to wait 20 seconds for the icons to pop up when I open/close the keyboard.

Ill take any new suggestions for fixing that, but I've done everything from freeing up more memory, removing the number of icons displayed, removing apps, putting the home launcher always in memory, editing files, etc., etc. I've heard this is not an issue in some home replacements. It seems the most highly recommended are Home ++ and Helix launcher, no?

Well, I'd rather not have to configure my home screens again. I could deal with that more than the folders though. I have a lot of folders with icons in them. I don't want to redo those. Will any of these replacements copy or import the layout I have now to the replacement, so I can be comfortable in switching? Any suggestions on alternatives?

ADW Launcher and LauncherPro are probable the two best home replacements. Both are great at it can be debated all day which is better. I prefer ADW myself. Zeam is another option that is supposed to be lightweight, not bad but I would still try the others. Both are free with LauncherPro having a paid option too. Once set up, all 3 have backup/restore options for your layout.

You will have to set up your homescreens again with any replacement. I suggest App Organizer (free) or Folder Organizer (paid) for making folders easily for a few reasons.

    1. Your "redraw" problems could be from having too many app folders.
    2. Once set up, it is easy to add/remove folders from home screens with icons already organized.
    3. It is easier on resources to make folders this way.

If you are rooted, there are several "fixes" for redraw issues with any launcher but I don't know if you are. Hope this helps.

I had redraw issues with no folders, then I had them with only 1 or 2 icons on the home screen and again with folders.

I am rooted and using the stock launcher currently. I'll try the apps you suggest. I hate the idea of organizing my apps all over again though so I'll likely procrastinate. What other suggestions do you have for the redraw issue?

From terminal type the following commands. This works for many, but not all.

    su
    echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1>>/data/local.prop

Then reboot and see if it helps.

There is a good post about it in bugless beast subforum if you need more info. Title starts with "Reduce Redraw...". Sorry for no link (thanks to Tapatalk).

If you have a task killer, stop using it. It could be killing your home app.

Some ROMs have redraw issues worse than others, but if you don't want to switch launchers, I can't imagine you switching ROMs.

I would still definitely try another launcher though.

I tried that, but have updated some things since then, so maybe I need to do it again. Do you happen to know what might kill this action?

Ill check out that thread again too. I swear I've tried them all, but who knows. It happens only if I open/close the keyboard while on the home screen or open/close it away from the home screen and then go to it. So if I open an app, then open the keyboard, close it, then close the app it's fine. If I open the keyboard I then have to wait for home/launcher to work, then I can open the app and use it. If I close before going back home I have problems again.

I'll probably have to play with replacements.

I went with Zeam. It seems to be working better, but occasionally still has a redraw. Not too bad. I'm annoyed that a replacement app works better than the standard for something like this, and that I have to bother with the replacement.

I ran the above through terminal emulator before replacing with Zeam. Do I need to undo it and redo it? Do I need to change anything for it to apply to Zeam instead of the stock launcher?
