App for texting on Droid 1 - any help?

    Hi all,

I just uninstalled Handcent SMS b/c I kept receiving force close errors which was a PITA... Anyone know a good app to use in place of the handcent app on a Droid 1?

    Appreciate any advice.

    Thanks very much,

I use Handcent without any issues. If you do not like the stock app try Chomp.

Stock is ok but I just thought there might be something else out there which is different. I'll check out Chomp though.

The force close issue only happened when I would receive emails from people to my text.

    Thanks again!

Sorry, I'm not understand what is going on. If someone is sending an email how are you receiving it as a text message?

Mike you can both send an email as a text message and send a text message as an email

To see this in action - using Handcent in the "to" box type in your gmail address and type your text and send...when you receive it in your gmail the "from" address is your mobile number plus a verizon @ domain - if you reply via email to that address it will come to your phone as a text message

I was just reading about force close on other posts and some people say that you don't need a virus protect (Lookout) for the Droid. I was just nervous about receiving some type of virus on the droid when downloading apps. If that's the case, I'll uninstall Lookout and reinstall Handcent and see if that works...

O/P you can safely uninstall virus protectors and task killers - neither one is needed

An example of the force close. I'll send a text from my Droid to a friend's email address. They'll reply to me from their email to my cell (text) and then I receive a force close error. It's much easier and faster for me to send a text to an email than an email from my Droid to an email address. Hope this helps clear it up.
