advice sought - buy brand new for $160?

    Hey all,

I'm a WinMo person, but not anti-android. Had a Droid for a bit that I liked, but I'm convinced that it was a lemon. Battery life was my main problem, also weird freeze-outs. Willing to try again, and about to buy a brand new one for $160.

Alternative would be $300 or more for a next-gen device.

What do you think? Or rather, what would you do?

Thanks for your Sunday night advice.

I wouldn't spend $160 on a Droid (1) since it's going for $50 according to Verizon's trade in, and $50 or free with new contracts

As for battery concerns, definitely look around the forum there are lots of threads containing advice and tips/tricks to increase battery life.

A lot of us can get a full day with heavy usage no problem

I should clarify, this is from a friend who has had one in a box for a few months unused. So no contract, no obligations, etc.

Just wondering what you would do here. Or even if you'd try to flip it after. Seems like they sell for a bit more than $160 on craigslist or eBay.

Well now that you've clarified the conditions surrounding the phone, I'd say get it. Personally I love my D1 and will not be selling it even when upgrading to my next device.

It's a truly 'vanilla' Android device and it has a huge development community behind it. It will most likely hang around as a usable device as long as the G1 did/has.

I'd give him $150 and consider it a score.

Cool, I'll grab it. Original asking was $200 or so... Don't think I can knock off that last $10. Had to lose the dock, too, which is fine, since don't care about that.
