This is they're list for 2009.
Essential Android Apps
Any here you disagree with?
I think some of those are subjective... They aren't 'essential' as they make it out to be, I mean, while I use Locale, you don't NEED it unless you want something that actually notes your location for phone needs and such. Some of the other stuff are literally recommendations versus actually 'need to have', like "Hey, you should check this out."
Saw a few apps I haven't really investigated, and some I inquired about cause I was unsure how to search for it, (Like Shazam for identifying songs by sound). So it isn't completely unreliable, but just take the suggestions as they are, suggestions.
They are opinions, the only thing you can count on from Gizmodo is the offhanded knocks of anything not Apple, for example from the Facebook description "Yes, it's vastly inferior to its iPhone counterpart—an unfortunately common theme for Android apps" (While I agree with them about Facebook, I hardly believe this is a "common theme")
This is a list of apps that have gotten the most notoriety... I am not sure that actually constitutes "essential" though. Things like Layars I think is cool, but with insufficient data (especially outside major areas) to be considered a must have.
Others like WApedia are questionable choices. But over all a good starting point for somebody looking for a list of popular apps.
Yeah, you're all right. The beauty of the Android OS is it's customization/personalization aspect. So I guess your choice of App is definitely dependent on your own style.
The Astro "task killer" app seemed interesting but I need to investigate if it's anymore robust than the app most people here have downloaded.
Thanks for advice.
Honestly... I didn't even realize that Astro "killed" apps. I use it as a File Manager, so to that extent, yes it is more than the one trick pony than the popular ATK.
