    Removing a shattered screen?

A while back I dropped my Droid (the regular Motorola Droid), sending it sliding across an asphalt driveway & creating a pretty deep scratch in the screen. Just today it ended up shattering completely. The phone is still usable, touch screen and all, because it is just the glass that is on top of the screen that is broken i guess. That being said, I don't want to keep using or trying to look through the shattered glass to use my phone, and I can't get a new one right now. (Though the phone is insured, they want to send me the Devour which I don't want to have to deal with--I want the Droid or Droid 2). Can I remove the broken glass screen piece by piece and continue to use the touch screen by making contact with the real screen underneath it? Is that possible and if so is that a bad idea for a temporary fix until I can afford a new Droid again?

    Thanks.

Call back the company you have your insurance through and demand thet give you a Droid. Talk to a supervisor or whatever it takes, just make sure you let them know you are not going to accept anything but a Droid. Argue with them that the Devoir is not comparable to a Droid. If its Asuron then they should know already but just make it clear that you will not accept anything but a droid. Thats why we pay insurance in the first place.

They won't send me a Droid, as they say it has been discontinued. I'm fed up with Verizon...

The glass IS the touch screen. If you remove it the phone will not work. You'll also break the seal and probably get moisture and dirt in your phone.

You can get replacement touchscreens for about $40 on eBay.

You might find a phone store (not Verizon) that does repairs too.
