    Cyanogen mod

Would anyone be able to walk me through how to put cyanogen onto my rooted by easyroot moto Droid that has the manual 2.2 froyo update? Nervous to do it as I don't want to brick my phone

If you're already rooted than ROM Manager (available in the market, free and paid versions) could be your easiest solution.

If you're interesting in CM go read up on threads in their forum here.

you cant brick your phone by putting roms on it, the only true way to brick your phone is to screw up an RSD lite flash. Everyone also seems to not understand what bricking means also, im tired of seeing "HELP!!!!! i bricked my phone its stuck at the m/droid eye!!" bricking it means its completely useless as it it wont even turn on.

Download Rom Manager from the Market (the one by ClockworkMod), free is fine as the free will do CyanogenMod Roms.

Rom Manager (ClockworkMod) is the free one
Rom Manager Premium (ClockworkMod) is the license key if you want the paid version. The other one in the Market is NOT the one you want (Kevin Williams).

Flash ClockworkMod Recovery using Rom Manager. If it takes a while to return "successfully flashed...." do it again. It should only take 2 to 3 seconds to return the success message or it didn't flash properly (even if it says success). If it continues taking a while....scroll down and flash the alternate recovery, when it's done scroll back up and flash ClockworkMod Recovery.

Select Download Rom in Rom Manager, go to CyanogenMod and pick CyanogenMod 6.0.0-RC2. You'll need to get the google apps (froyo) as well.

How do you flash? Or does rom manager do it for you? And how long will the whole process take? And one more question, when you say I need Google apps will it be individual apps or like a package I download ?

Download Rom Manager and all will be clear.

Rom Manager will do everything for you, will have a place to tap to download CyanogenMod Rom, will have a place to tap to download Google Apps (Froyo) and will have a place to tap to flash ClockworkMod Recovery.

Start.....download Rom Manager from the Market.

It will take less than 30 minutes to do everything. What it will take time to do is to reconfigure your screens, shortcuts, sounds used for ringtones for certain contacts, etc...

Make sure to do a WIPE after the rom Downloads and is ready to install. Since this is your first go with Rom Manager...go for making a backup too.

Download Rom - pick your rom
When done it will ask if you want to backup current rom (check the box) and wipe data/cache (check the box). Click OK

you can downlod flash from the market (it was there, then it wasnt, it might be back since the OTAs resumed) or from a link here on the board. The whole process takes maybe 10-20 minutes with downloading the rom being the longest part (if youre on 3g), the actual installation only takes a few minutes. Google Apps (called Gapps) will be a pop up box when you select CM6 from rom manager and you have to put a check mark next to it to download it, it will get installed automatically along with the rom.

After the installation is done, give it 15-30 minutes to allow it to autorestore your apps as quick as possible (it will seem extremely slow if you try and use it while its restoring the apps). Im warning you now that Cyanogen 6 RC2 is pretty buggy/unstable/slow for a lot of people, including myself, so dont get discouraged if it runs like crap 6 hours after youve installed it. Id recommend trying out Sapphire v1 (under CVPCS in rom manager) also, its like cyanogenmod since its built from the android source code but more stable IMO.

You cant really rely on what other people say, every droid is slightly different and may prefer x rom over y rom. For example me and you could be running the exact same stuff but yours may run slightly faster than mine, or mine may FC more. Essentially theres a lot of trial and error that goes into finding the stuff that runs best for you.

Once you do your first root and rom (don't forget to backup!) you realize it's fairly easy and will probably try at least a few ROMs. Don't go installing 5 a day but, as good as some roms are there's a good chance there's one that works better for what you want.

CM is great, have been using it for a while. However, you might not think so. But you're not stuck with one rom for life so look around and see if something suits you better.
