Don’t misunderstand my rant here folks. There has been an overwhelming amount of support from a lot of dedicated Droid users spending a great amount of their personal time assisting those of us who are jumping in over our heads and trying to manually update our Droid 1 to the 2.2 os. To all of you, I tip my hat in thanks. You are our Hero’s. Unfortunately, I am well aware of my skills and realize any effort to do a manual could be fatal to my phone so, just like so many other Droid 1 owners, I have patiently been waiting for the OTA. Today the 18th still nothing. I will continue to resist doing a manual update.

I have checked with the Verizon store I bought my D1 from (November 9, 2009) to see if they could help by performing a manual for me. No can do! I asked if they could provide me an accurate time frame for distribution to be completed. No can do. I’ve read in this forum many different responses to the same questions from various “Official” Verizon representatives. All Verizon outlets and personnel should be ON THE SAME PAGE with what is going on. We should all be hearing the same information.

If Verizon had been doing their job correctly, you and I would have been provided reliable information weeks (Months) ago, along with regular updates. Had Verizon been on top of this mess, many of the problems and issues we’re all working through with the upgrade would have been eliminated. Our Hero's could finally get a good nights sleep. The handling of this entire process by Verizon makes me feel embarrassed for them. It also brings into question how they will address future updates with other phones.

I have been a Verizon customer in good standing for many years. Android is a good platform and I am satisfied with my D1. But, I strongly encourage Verizon (Google) to step up and show some respect to their customers.

The only problem and issue you seem to have with this update is patience.

I can't talk you into a manual update, but I will tell you that there is less chance of something going wrong with a manual update as opposed to an OTA update.

So just be patient. It's not the 19th yet.

Far less so than receiving the OTA update as evidenced by the posts on this forum alone. However, it's your choice to wait and we support your choice in doing so, despite what some of us (myself included) have said. We just get a little tired of people complaining that they don't have their update when all we can do is offer support in installing the update manually so they will have it. It's not our fault they don't have it yet, we have no control over it, and if we were doing it there's no guarantee there wouldn't have been the same problems. I for one would have insisted that all stores had a trained tech that could and would be doing updates free of charge, but that's me.

Yes, Verizon has poor customer service for a lot of folks. It's their number one complaint amongst people asked what Verizon was like as a carrier. A good part of that is their business model; if you look, you'll see that the majority of their stores are franchises (authorized resellers) or independent merchants (who proudly proclaim themselves so), and a such are generally either out of the loop entirely except for what Verizon deigns to tell them or what they pick up online and from people walking into the store. Training is minimal or non-existent, and other than providing software and stock, Verizon basically lets the swing. The official Verizon Wireless stores are little better, as Verizon is mostly interested in keeping customers paying and their network from going down. The updates are PR stunts or to avoid lawsuits, little more. We all agree with you in that Verizon needs to treat their customers better, and we all agree that they should do a better job with their reps and CS agents. Unfortunately, it is what it is and there's no real way to change it. With luck Verizon will have learned from its mistakes and future rollouts will go better than this one. Of course, this update was based on promises from Adobe, so there's a strong possibility that Adobe was as, if not more so, responsible for some of the problems.

So, I for one thank you for the vote of thanks. We're all underpaid here (volunteers usually are ) and it's the thanks that make it worthwhile. I hope your update comes soon and goes without a hitch so you can enjoy it like everyone who got it already.

P.S. I was up till 4:30 last night. I hear you on the sleep, but I just can't seem to find the time. I've already spent over 3 hours on here today.

The sound>vibrate>silent feature was disabled due to the complaints of too many users accidentaly putting their phone on silent. The only way to do this now is either manually go into the settings everytime you put it on silent, or you can just disable notifications in the sound setting and the droiding will stop.
    super wrong!
its in sound settings. vibrate only when not in silent is silent and the other option vibrates

I just stopped by my VZW to ask about the update schedule. One of the folks working had a D1 with no Froyo wondering the same thing with no answer.

I checked the display D1 no Froyo. I played with the X and the D2 on display. I went back to the D1 and it had the update notification! I started the dl and install. I played with it for a few. I looked at my D1 no update!

That's kind of sad, but it goes to show how random the updates are. Hang in there, you should get it soon.

My wife, who never even mounted her Droid got impatient and did the manual install. There is an alternative to waiting.

Not wrong, I know you can go to sound settings and do it but I was trying to explain that you can no longer go from ringer to vibrate to silent using the volume buttons anymore

that is a nuisance, i believe the easiest solution is the beautiful widgets silent toggle widget (or whatever it is)

someone who is 30 minutes away from me got the update last night but i didn't

i think i'm going to manually update tonight if i don't get it by the time i get home from work. i'm just a lil skeptical because people seem to point to 5 different files to download for it.
