Need a quick Droid 101

I'm eligible for an upgrade (with Verizon) on July 16th.

How many different Droids are there?

DROID by Motorola
DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC
DROID ERIS by HTC

So am I correct in understanding that there is both a Droid Xtreme and a Droid 2.2 coming out?

Hard to keep track....are these two new ones coming out soon?

I need a Droid master to explain this all to me...

The Motorola DROID and the DROID Eris both came out at the same time. The Moto DROID quickly became just DROID by many of its users and the community. The DROID Eris became simply Eris. They slapped "DROID" as a prefix on the Incredible's name to increase sales so now people not in the "know" are all confused. The DROID Incredible is simply the Incredible now.

Comming shortly there will be a DROID 2, made by Motorola and essentially the same phone as the Motorola DROID, but with a bigger processor and many other tweaks, but the physical appearance stays pretty much the same.
Also coming soon will be the DROID "X" or Xtreme, its an all new design and looks nothing like the other DROIDS.

The original DROID non the less, is the Motorola DROID (the first one). Its kind of become a brand now and is often referred to as the Droid family, or the Droid army.
