Two questions about doing things in bulk?

I have two questions about doing things in bulk.

1) If I get email and don't want to mark each one as "read" separately, how can I highlight all the new mail to check as "read" it seems as though I have to do it individually.

2) I have a bunch of pictures and I want to send them to my email. how can I highlight all the pictures? seems like I have to send them individually.
