Personally, I just rely on google's email, contacts, and calendar to sync my important info.
Is there an advantage to syncing anything else? Does syncing let you archive old messages or anything like that that could speed up the Droid?

Yes but since I started syncing my mobile me with my google, I've had nothing but issues with contacts going away or losing emails & phone numbers. The more I think about it I need to break that connection as well as the facebook sync and just stick with syncing to my google account once I get it straitened out.

I don't always keep it on, I can live with checking mail manually usually.
