So I have decided to root but there seem to be so many options to do so, for those that have rooted what did you use to root and why?
I finally decided to use the instructions posted by Matth3W
I chose this method because I like to know what is and is not going on with my phone. While several of the other options handle a lot of the system commands I feel more comfortable being in control.
Just my opinion.
What ever option you choose someone will be here to help or and your questions.
Good luck and let us know what option you pick.
I used the update.zip that was hosted on sholesmod.info. I did it because I wanted to be able to remove apps I didn't want (email, corp calendar, etc), overclock if I so desired, use applications that require root (dropcap2, quickboot), and modify files whenever I want.
Lol...this thread won't eliminate your confusion because everyone has an opinion
I started to use Matth3w's instructions then because so many responded to my thread I started when I went to root I ended up switching midstream and installed Smoked Glass 4.5 and have been very happy with it.
Let's tackle it this way:
If you want a simple to use method where you don't want/care to know what's going on in the background, then use the dmupdater method. (DroidMod). It's available as an app in the market.
If you want to get your hands a little dirty use one of the other methods. You'll learn what's going on, use some linux commands and be able to use that as a base for further learning/playing.
One of my concerns was trying to figure out of 1.2 was better than 1.1 for a rom.
just used droid mod and used the step by step instructons and im veryleased with the results. works great and I just saw too many diferent options and opinions on how to do we saW it and when it boiled down to it I didn't want to do anything any riskier just to learn because that d be a pretty costly error to pay for trying to learn. really cant go wrong with it.
