Currently both my wife and I have a Droid 2 Global with unlimited data and 1400 minutes. We use maybe 300-400 minutes a month and have never come close to reaching 1400 minutes. We pay about $146 after a 12% employer discount and the "Talk Text and Data Plus, $20 Discount". If we upgrade our phones, we would switch to a 4GB plan and pay almost the same price. To be honest, we never use more than 2GB each but we're also on 3G phones. However, we do pay $50 a month for a 5mb internet connection. 4G just came to our town last week.
The dilemma... Oh what to do... We decided we would pay retail for our phones and save $50 per month on our internet bill. No way would we pay crazy $700 retail prices. Just a few days ago, we purchased 2 Samsung Galaxy S3's off eBay. One is new and the other is almost new. (Reliable sellers with clean ESN's but it's always a gamble) We paid $430 each for a blue and white 16GB version. With our phones being our internet provider, we'll easily surpass 4GB of data especially with 4G now available here.
It's been 18 months since we purchased our D2G's. In 18 months, the internet savings will completely pay off both of our phones. As long as Verizon's 4G proves reliable enough, the only difference between now and 18 months from now will be new phones and faster internet. (No price difference) Of course you can't forget that even if we did upgrade, we would have spent $200 each or $400 to get the same phones. So really, after 9 months, we're saving money.
Phones arrive tomorrow!
