Exclamation android version update w/o Verizon?

So my question is exactly that, can I get an android version update without having to deal with Verizon? My OS seems to be running slow and I'd like to update it but I don't want to go through Verizon to do it. Any suggestions?

If it's running slow, you can backup your stuff and do a factory reset. You can search the boards for ICS updates. If you root your droid, you can remove the verizon bloatware.

yep root your phone and flash a custom recovery. then from there flash one of the many available custom roms. Which one is right for you? That's what you have to decide for yourself.

It might seem a little intimidating at first but if you take the time to make sure everything is right and you read the instructions very carefully everything will go fine

You can definitely do either of the suggested methods, but I think a ROM would be the better choice considering you're using a droid X. I don't know how well that device is still supported and if you have the latest update from Verizon I heard its pretty difficult to root (well not difficult but a lot more steps).

Take a look at the link in my sig and that'll fill you in on what root is what all that other good stuff.

Unless things have changed version 1.8 of the utility still makes rooting and safestrapping the RAZR a snap.

Don't know, haven't owned a Moto since the OG Droid and that was pretty much a Nexus compared to today's Moto phones.

I tried to help a friend root about a month ago and that latest update made the rooting process have a few extra steps that eventually confused her. She gave up and got an SG3 2 weeks later LOL
