Glad you got it to work :)

OK, so I specifically registered to ask a few questions. I am basically in the exact same position as the OP: I have the unlimited data plan on the original HTC Droid Incredible and able to upgrade. Both my parents have iPhone 4S's with the tiered data. My plan is to transfer my upgrade to one of my parent's lines, order the S3 online, activate it on said parent's line which in turn deactivates the iPhone, reactivate the iPhone via verizonwireless.com, which leaves the S3 deactivated, and ultimately reactivate the S3 on my line, all without losing my unlimited data.
1. Since my Incredible doesn't have a sim card, will getting one from Verizon directly screw up my plan to keep my unlimited data?
2. Will the fact that both my parents having iPhones on a tiered data plan also screw up my plan?
3. Am I missing anything from my plan to keep unlimited?
I may have a few more questions down the road, so please bear with me :)
Welcome to DroidForums 1nsertnamehere. There is a person that reported that he was able to successfully transfer his upgrade to a tiered line and keep the unlimited on his line. The one thing is certain...you must activate the new phone on the tiered line before switching it & activating it on the unlimited for it not to change your unlimited.
How long does it have to be activated on the tiered line for? Someone mentioned it has to be for 3 days or so? But I don't think there was any confirmation on that.
About the Sim card, if my Incredible doesn't have one, will getting one from the store for my new S3 somehow meddle with my unlimited?
Supposedly it should only be a couple hours. I've heard it recommended to wait to make sure the tiered line shows the updated two year contract when you check your account online. I know some people have switched right away. The Sim cards are free at Verizon so that should be no problem.
For a family plan, I've read you can activate the new phone online yourself directly to the unlimited line and everything works -- subsidized new phone and keep unlimited data.
10/5/2012 3:15 PM UPDATE...
I transferred my upgrade to the 2nd line and ordered a new subsidized phone on the 2nd line. My email confirmation said I was upgrading and activation was pending on the 1st line -- not what I did. Called VZW and they told me that a transfer still applies to the line that owned the transfer and that my unlimited data would be lost. I canceled the order.
Hmm, both seem to be viable options although activating the new phone into the tiered plan first and then switching it over seems to be a safer route (at least to me).
I will be transferring my upgrade, purchasing, activating, and switching the phones online (picking up the new SIM card in person). Any reason to do everything in-store instead?
Besides replacing the SIM card with mine, do I have to do anything with it first before activating it on the S3 into my line?
Thanks again for the replies and patience :)
I would call Verizon first to make sure you won't lose your unlimited by transferring your upgrade to the tiered line. There was one person that reported he did it successfully but others, like mule, has said that the available upgrade has to be on the tiered line. The safest thing is to call Verizon and ask them specifically if transferring your upgrade will you be able to keep your unlimited. You don't want to find yourself with the shock a month down the road that you no longer have unlimited.
