This board > any VZW class.
The classes have been a big success in my area. They are free to all customers, but it's suggested you register ahead of time at www.verizonwireless.com/workshops. The classes are usually led by a combination of trainers, tech support, data experts, and retail reps. Generally the people leading the workshops are pretty knowledgeable but you can also end up learning tips from other users.
While they might not offer much to intermediate and advanced users, the workshops are a great resource for people new to smartphones.
My colleague at work holds 1 to 2 of the classes at our store per week...when people are purchasing one of the Droids, we give them the option of filling out a little questionnaire regarding their interest in attending one of our new owner's clinics ... on said short document they check off what they think they may need assistance with in learning the device, when they might be free to attend, & their email address for contact as to when the next clinics are to be held..
We find that many of the older customers (50 and up) are the ones who fill out the 'invite'...Not everyone is the type to download the 200+ page user's manual from the VZ website (or has the time or is willing to read a freaking manual...LOL), are comfortable (patient enough?) learning the device on their own or frequenting a site like this, so we find the new owner's clinics to be very helpful for them.
From a business standpoint, it displays to the customers that we are there to support them beyond the sale, which reduces returns of the devices.
