Yes the SIM card that was used to activate the new phone on the dummy line will be connected/tied to that phone number so if you don't already have a SIM card that's activated with your phone number, then you would need to get one (they're free at Verizon) to activate the phone on your line.Quote:

@sakalu, if you use the Verizon data widget it'll update your data usage.

I posted a question about this yesterday in a different section and had no response. My verizon account is up for 2 new upgrades. I want to replace my phone with the Razr Maxx HD from amazon. The upgrade is on my son's numbers (I am account holder). I used mine and my wife's upgrades last year to get them iphone's. I know with Verizon that is not an issue. My question is can I purchase the phone through Amazon and activate it on my number? I think I can do it online and not go into store at all. I just want to make sure I understand this completely before I do this. Do I have to activate it on his number then switch it to mine? All that stuff is a little unclear to me. Any help would be appreciated.
Restrictions on a transfer of upgrades?
Okay I have four lines
Dummy phone#1: next upgrade is 10/05/14
Dummy phone #2: next upgrade is 11/27/2014
Smartphone #1 has a current upgrade with a $50.
Smartphone #2 also has an upgrade on it too.
I'd like to know the steps to move both upgrades on the smartphones to the dummy lines and if there will be an issue with the $50 upgrade to move. Also if the enforcement of the full two years of contracts will prevent me from using the upgrades on the dummy lines.

You can transfer the upgrades online or you can call Verizon and ask the Rep to transfer the upgrade. I'm not sure what will happen to the $50. Probably depends on what the $50 is for.... credit, discount, activation?? A Verizon Rep should be able to tell you whether you would lose it or not.

Good morning!(or afternoon to you east coasters)
Goal: brand new phone on my unlimited data line without losing the unlimited.
I'm on an old family plan. My line has unlimited data. Two lines have the 4gb for the price of 2 and one line is my ex's and is now completely basic nothing on it. The basic line is up for a new phone.
Can I go in and upgrade that line to say the new max.
Put the max on my unlimited line.
Put the old line back down to basic.
And if I can. Can it be done at a Verizon store and/or retailer?
Thank you very much.

Most helpful reps will gladly do this for you in the store, just ask. Don't be shy to tell them your strategy, they are working stiffs just like us. They all know about the loop hole, it's on the VZW forums too. They might tell you to wait a couple days to remove the data fee on that line. (Prorated). Just was at Verizon getting my MAXX, paid full retail, she didn't argue to try to get me off unlimited, some try and some don't. Good luck.
