Time to Retire D1
I've been running on the D1 for several years now. I liked it, then I didn't. The phone rather quickly became laggy with redraw issues, app launching issues, force close issues (all the normal issues that most moto - droid users seem to experience).
I use my phone extensively for work; email, phone, tethering, maps. I rooted my droid and it seemed to help with some speed issues (getting rid of bloatware). I also like wireless tethering. Like really like it.
My question is, where do I go from here?
I've been looking around and a lot of the new phones are way too big. I don't need a 4.3 screen. I don't do well with softkeys. I am ok with the speeds I get tethering with 3g (not really watching videos or anything bandwidth intensive).
Do I take the plunge and go D3? Do I hold out for better? I really don't feel like waiting too much longer for another phone. I'm tired of the app and redraw issues. Will the D3 have the same app issues? Given that it's gingerbread, is there an expectation that issues will exist initially?
Curious to hear everyone thoughts.
If u like ur D1 and don't need 4g and don't want a bigger screen, then go with the D3 or Inc2
It sounds like you want the D3. Nothing else (that I know of) is coming out with a physical kb.
my biggest concern is facing the same lag/app issues i'm running into with my D1.
the internal memory is doubled. the internal storage is now 16gb. the process is now at 1ghz. but it has gingerbread. and who knows what else vzw threw on there.
Dude you WANT Gingerbread. Don't write off the entire OS based on your experience with a phone that was NEVER/EVER designed to run on it. Droid 1 sucked on Froyo for me. 2.1 was the best OS for the Droid. All the others got to big. Grab a Droid 3 and you love it. Myself I wanted the bigger screen and to ditch the crappy keyboard on the Droid 1. So I got a Droid X2. For me it has been fast and I love the battery life I get from it in Normal Use.
oh, i'm not disagreeing about gingerbread. i am just concerned that it has a larger footprint and the ratio to increase in hardware doesn't match up to the increase in software footprint.
sounds like it does, in theory at least.

Gingerbread is good, but MOTOBLUR sucks... motoblur gimps phones.

i was asking if it didn't match up. i have no idea what the consumption rates are for gingerbread. nor how much the bloatware will impact performance. hence me asking.

You have no idea how bad Blur is until you get on an AOSP ROM. I didn't believe everybody who said it did until I ditched it.
My phone fast, no bugs and smooth.
