Problems rooting Droid 1? Odd.

Alright guys so my HTC Incredible broke, but my mom just updated to an iPhone so I took her old Moto Droid. Running into a few problems:

When I plug my phone into the computer, it does not show the internal memory in My Computer. Before with my INC, all I would do was plug it in and the dialog box would pop up letting me know that it had connected.

I have dowloaded the Motorola USB 4.9.0 drivers, and they installed correctly (64bit machine). Restarted the computer, still my phone will not connect.

I am running Android 2.2.1 with build number FRG83D.

Has anyone else had these problems, but more importantly, WHO CAN HELP ROOT MY PHONE!

On the Droid 1 you need to mount the SD card before you can see it on your computer (IIRC you can do that through the notification bar).

As for rooting:
Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

I'm not trying to look at the SD card, I am trying to see the internal memory. I can't root without the computer recognizing that.
