Actually, so far I am shocked at the lack of iFanboys deriding the article... but I guess they haven't woken up yet.
RIM is leading the consumer desire? I guess it's not their fault.... they don't know any better![]()
Not surprised by RIM, in that I have seen (far too many) soccer moms (ok, and dads, I don't want to be sexist) that think the Blackberry is the end all be all device so you can keep Little Johnny's soccer schedule and still e-mail the PTA... plus it comes in pink (ok, that may be a bit sexist, but that is why they made a pink one... so I think it is fair to say).
The mind-boggiling thing is...they say the highest of all RIM phones mentioned was "The Pearl", the farthest thing from a smartphone produced by them.
Just another reason why an article like this really doesn't shed much light.
Remember... we a talking "consumer" customers here... The Pearl was the the first (and only) RIM phone that looks... well... like a phone, and is also available as a clamshell (and it is available in pink for the soccer mom). That makes it a little less mind boggling (I think).
RIM, like Apple is no dummy in marketing. When was the last movie where you didn't see a Mac on the desk or a Blackberry in the hand. Sell a product as a lifestyle and push it. RIM has been the standard for so long in business and emailing. It's old and they decided to move into other fields way too late. It works but the experience isn't as nice.
