(Title) Anyone know why? It does it at startup and it hasn't previously.
My credentials being that I graduated from a video game development college (DigiPen) with about 7+ years of C/C++/etc programming under my belt...
IMHO, no android game should ever require root access to your phone... I honestly can't think of a single gameplay/usability scenario where it would be needed, if even only temporarily. Not to mention that it should be noted somewhere in the market description that it even does ask and for what reasons.
I've played this game, which is sadly a great game bogged down by annoying ads and a horrible introduction by asking for SU-root access.
I denied it and it still works fine for me.
Though while typing this I had it sitting on the Episode Select screen, music playing and all, and then when it reached the end of one of the music loops the screen flashed black and then went back to the same screen. Thought it was fine, finished this post, but it actually froze all input when I picked it up again. Couldn't exit, play, go to the home-screen, or power-off my phone properly. Had to pull the battery. Not sure if that's a side-effect of denying it root-access or just a bug in the game I stumbled upon. *shrugs*
Good luck getting those perfect slices .
Do you use an Ad-blocker program? Maybe it's that asking for root access, and not the game itself. I can't see any game requesting SU access, as it would mean the game wouldn't work on non-rooted devices.
And you're partially correct. The code that requires root access within the app won't run on non-rooted devices or rooted ones that deny it SU permission, yet that doesn't necessarily mean the rest of the app that doesn't require root won't run. This is why this thread was sparked up as it's extremely fishy for a game to be asking for SU permission when it runs just fine without it. Whatever the game is doing with the root access is not required to play the game, should be removed by the dev, and avoided/denied until then or when a legitimate excuse to require it comes along.
