    New Droid2 owner...questions about tweaking

OK, so first of all, I have to say that android os is freakin' awesome! I've had my phone for a few weeks, and have gotten pretty hooked on the features available.

That being said, it has had a few quirks. Every now and then, it reboots itself. And it seems after a few days, I need to power-cycle it to "refresh" it, as it starts to get slow and buggy.

Just curious if there's anything I need to be doing, like anything to change, tweak, install, etc.

I've looked around a few forums and websites, but all they seem to recommend are which apps you "must have." That's good information, and I've discovered a few along the way, but I'm more interested with ways to kills services that I may or may not need.

Oh BTW...my phone is the R2D2 Droid2, in case that makes any difference.

    Thanks!

Do not use any task killers or anti-virus apps on android. They are unnecessary and just eat up cpu and battery life.

If you want to speed up your phone looking into rooting, overclocking, and changing ROMs in the Hacks section.

OK, so I'm not looking for an app killer, but rather want to know if there are any applications or services that can/should/should not, be turned off.

I may end up rooting, because it's ridiking-friculous that you can't remove the amazon mp3 or skype apps, neither of which i use.

    anyways, thanks for the input.

I try and reboot the phone at least once every other day or so, keeps those pesky glitches at bay for me. If you are going to root I would suggest Titanium Backup so you can "freeze" those preloaded apps you don't want or delete them if you choose to.

If you are not using them turning off GPS, Wifi and/or Bluetooth will help save battery life.

in all honesty you should just try a task killer. if you dont like it, or find it to make things slower or kills your battery life, delete it. i have one,(advanced task killer) and i feel it doesnt kill my battery or anything. (I kill the task killer along with all other un-necessary apps). it just frees up memory and the phone seems to run faster after i use it. i tried deleting it and things started to bog the phone down.

i would stay away from anti-virus programs tho.

also try quick cache clear or somethign like that. it clears cache with a click and also speeds up the phone.

i reboot the phone once a day just to keep things running smooth.

Advanced Task killer Froyo is a good one to have and I also did not notice any slow down or battery life issues, in fact once I uninstalled it my phone would lock up and start acting up. With a Task killer my droid x seems to work better and I have to do less battery pulls than with out it. I understand the Droid OS is supposed to kill taks on its own but as I have learned not all things work 100% in the techology world.

A word of advice do not kill everything, use logic and select apps that you do not use or tend to have problems (like the camera) I let the droid OS handles most applications and only have the task killer handle the problem ones.

Speaking of rebooting on a regular basis, are there any apps out there that automate this for you (specifically at a bizarre time like 4:00am so you wouldn't even notice)?
