    Earlier this week, Juniper Networks lit a fire with its report claiming that the amount of mobile malware has jumped 472% since July. According to Juniper's numbers, the number of malware samples collected in October jumped 110% compared to September, and 171% over what was collected in July.
    Not that there isn't a threat out there, but the latest bit is over-hyped and you can guess who's doing the hyping.

    The easy way to protect yourself against the horde is to not allow non market apps the right to install (Settings, Manage Applications, Unknown Sources (un-check)) and don't connect to public networks. In fact, leaving Bluetooth and WiFi off when not in use are generally a good idea even though they have not proven all that great as attack vectors.

    Also, scrutinize the apps you install carefully.
