Hey all im nimfez just joined the forums and i had a question, So basically Right now i have a dumbphone Pantec link with att no data plan. I wanna get a android phone but cant pay the data plan and dont really need it. My question is basically say i bought a used Verizon Droid RAZR off of ebay or something then i unlocked it and put in my att sim. If i did this i wouldnt have to play the data plan right? I know this is noob questiong and you probably get this alot but i just wanna make sure this is correct before i go buy a verizon smartphone then still end up getting charged, Sorry for my bad sentence structure i am very tired.

well any phone can be unlocked but if u wanna use it, u would need some sort of data plan. however u can probably use it as WiFi only if ur within a hotspot thats free. not saying it will work but can try & inquire on it

You can unlock it. It will NOT have a sim in that way, its global but not the same as like GSM in the sense of tmobile or at&t..Unless I'm mistaken...Anyway get it activated through verizon and get the data plan or use it as a laptop in a sense..However, you can flash it to pageplus prepay or other...try verizon...or maybe even flash to sprint. The razr is too new, I'm not too savy on its specs yet with all its cdma and global specs and abilities even though I will surely have it soon...if I don't like the bionic when I get it tomorrow...lol

Well i used the RAZR as a example i just bought a LG vortex and it should work if i just unlock it put my att sim in and not use the internets while im not at my house or at a wifi

What you're trying to do SHOULD work, I member when the iPhone was AT&T exclusive, people would jail break it so they could use it on Verizon

I'm surprised that nobody has pointed out the obvious...

Verizon doesn't use gsm sim cards in most of their phones. The ones that do can't be unlocked in a traditional manner to work with att or tmobile. There is literally zero chance that your friend unlocked an att iPhone and made it work on Verizon. What you are trying to do cannot be done without serious reprogramming
