    Help creating subfolders for notifications/alarms/ringtones

When I connect my phone and computer via USB (and mount) it won't let me add new folders. I get an error message that says "Unable to create folder. The media is write protected".

It shows 3 folders already there --- DCIM, download and LOST.DIR. I'm trying to add a new folder in the same spot and I keep getting that write protected error. I've tried creating subfolders within the DCIM and other folders and it does the same thing there as well.

Does anybody know how I can fix this so that I can add folders for my notification and alarm sounds?

    Thanks in advance!
    Kim

I created the folders on my desktop, filled them with the files I wanted and then copied and pasted them to my Droid.

    Welcome to the forums, btw.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome!

Unfortunately I also tried copy/pasting the folder over and it still gave me that error message about it being write protected. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Hit up the market and DL Astro, It's a file manager. See if you can create a new Folder with that.

That seems to have worked! Thanks so much.

Now if I could only figure out how to get rid of all the preloaded ringtones that I don't like!

    Creating Subfolders

I have a tablet, and downloaded the Terminal app. This app opens a window and lets you issue Unix commands. Being a long time Unix user, I love it.

I used it to create subfolders to organize my Kindle books

To move to the kindle directory
    cd /sdcard/kindle

To create subfolders, at the prompt type:
    mkdir xxxxx
    example: mkdir classics

To move files there (Treasure Island in the below example), use the mv command
    mv Treasure* classics/

NOTE: It gave me an error when creating the subdirectory, but created it.

    Hopes this helps.

    Hank
