Handcent notifications - Don't go away?

After I read/close/delete a thread in handcent, I still have a notification icon in my status bar. It wont go away unless I bring down the status bar, and hit clear.
    This normal?

I can try reinstalling. I am rooted, using Blackdroids 7.8
Also, how to I ensure that the notification is not coming from the default messaging client?

On my phone, when I receive a notification and I open that particular app the notification disappears.

Open the default app and disable notifications.
