Only for the physical. I used a timer for the onscreen, and I averaged between 60-89 wpm. Typing random sentences I googled for WPM tests. Good luck

Maybe not an app but perhaps a website...a non-flash one.

If you apply a rom or theme - backup first!
If you don't know how to backup...Stop until you do.
hint: I name my backups like this: sg6.0_20100428 or ss4.2_20100626 to easily find them later. rom and date.

If there is one out there, I'd love to see how fast I can type using Swype. It is so much nicer than the regular keyboards.

Interesting question. I've been using Swype along with Shapewriter and SlideIt for a couple of months now and I'm not convinced that my typing with any of the "slide" options is that much "faster" than with a standard keyboard. I'm completely convinced, though, that you're right in saying it's much "nicer" than a tap keyboard on the Droid.

For me (and it may be a purely personal reaction), the big advantage of Swype is that I find it much, much more relaxing to use than a standard keyboard. And when I ask myself why that seemed to be true, I think it's because I can focus on whole words rather than individual letters as I type. That reduces the interference between the physical act of entry and what I'm trying to say.

The brain is a fascinating machine. I think one can adapt to virtually any keyboard input system. The very fact that human beings adapt to the QWERTY format that was developed solely to keep the keys from hitting one another on old manual typewriters seems to suggest that. But there's no question that some methods are easier to adapt to than others. And I found the learning curve for Swype to be a matter of a couple of days before I was comfortable. That alone has kept me using it.
