Mobile Defense and GPS battery drain?

What are your feeling on the GPS draining your battery?

Do you keep your GPS on or off?

Contrary to popular belief, enabling the GPS doesn't actually mean the GPS is consuming any power. For more information about GPS and its affects on battery life, please view the Battery and Performance FAQ topic.

I keep my GPS off unless I need it then I turn it on I have on of the widgets that turns it on and off with one click so it is very simple. But I did notice my battery last longer with it off than on.

I was wondering what others thought because with Mobile Defense you really need the GPS to be on to track it accurately

Phone does not use GPS if no app is accessing it, so it makes no difference to the battery life unless you have one actively using it. Mobile Defense only uses GPS when you track if from the website, otherwise the GPS stays off.

I did some research after installing mobile defense and from everything I read, the only time GPS uses battery is when its used and when its turned on. So turning it off and on would use the most battery. After reading this, I leave the gps on at all times. My battery lasts about one day with heavy usage, just like it did before. GPS doesn't even show up under my battery usage on days I don't use it so i it must be using less than 2 percent battery.

I installed Mobile Defense and now leave GPS always on whereas before I only turned it on when specifically needed. I have noticed no change in battery life leaving GPS on. Also, in general I find it more convenient to already have it on when I want to use it.

Just to echo what others have said, I have Mobile Defense and keep the GPS turned on. The only time Mobile Defense makes the GPS active is if I go onto the Mobile Defense website and connect to the Droid.

If you don't see the dish icon in the top bar, then no app is in the background has activated the GPS. My battery life has not changed by leaving the GPS turned on.
