What is the point of the Handcent SMS widget?

It looks exactly the same at the shortcut icon, is there a difference?

which is pretty much useless since you'll have a notification in the notification bar until you either read the message or hit clear.

personal preference i use home++ so my ugly notification bar is not seen unless i hit the powerbar for it

in all honesty the extra if any power used by it would be so minor you wouldnt notice it since the data is being cached in handcent anyways so the widget most likely is getting push noticed form the app and not having to pull the app for the info imo
