    Root explorer v.s. astro?

Is root explorer a big enough improvement from astro that its worth paying for?

Depends on what you're trying to do. Root Explorer has access to a lot of files that the others don't.

I still haven't gotten around to buying root explorer yet, although it is quite usefull. Up until now the only thing i've needed it for was adding apps to system which I just do in terminal emulator.

Haha indeed helpful and eventually I might even understand more of what I'm seeing, either way helpful to veiw scripts as to get a sense of what writing one involves.

What's adding apps to the system do, integrated em into the phone like the factory apps?

Ya basically. Some apps require you to do so for them to fully work. For instance tonight I added an app that changes the keyboard based on what orientation the phone is in I.e. portrait>swype landscape>multi touch keyboard. In order for it to function it needs to be in the system/apps

root explorer is slightly faster because it does not have as many icons and animations
