It looks like T-Mobile is pulling out all the stops and rolling out the big guns, with Big Red as their primary target. First, the pink network just spammed out eight new video attack ads directed squarely at Verizon. Most of the ads are quick 9 second or less bursts (all shown in the thread below), although the one above is 15 seconds long.

That's not all though, beyond T-Mobile's shotgun marketing campaign, they are offering a shocking method to entice Verizon customers to leave for T-Mobile. They have a new offer that lets existing Verizon customers get a free phone to try out T-Mobile's network risk-free! Here's the details on this insane deal:
  • Port your phone number to T-Mobile and get a T-Mobile smartphone (while keeping your Verizon device)
  • After the trial, if want to switch, then T-Mobile will pay your early termination fees or device payments up to $650
  • If you want to go back with Verizon, you can simply trade your T-Mobile phone within 14 days, and once you’re back they will even pay the costs associated with reactivation.
T-Mobile's trial starts May 13th, and signups will be taken through the end of the month. It looks like T-Mo is doubling down on their desire to grab Verizon's customers. Sound off and let us know if you plan to try this out and also how it goes for you!

We all remember the overheat gate that happened prior to the release of the HTC One M9. There were lots of reports out there stating that the M9 would tend to overheat when running performance taxing apps like benchmarks. HTC quickly sent out an update fixing this problem. Many would be M9 owners decided against the phone because the update included "throttling" which would dull the performance of the device at least making it not as powerful as its original potential.

The ViperOneM9 development team has just released an update which also seeks to improve on the performance and fix the overheating issue. Other additions to the rom include tweaks for battery enhancement, per app navbar color, per app status bar color, hiding lockscreen widget and other lockscreen options, new emergency call behaviors, hide sprint gps icon, and much more! Grab the update from the link below.

One of the top reasons to flash a rom like CyanogenMod is the ability to use custom themes. The themes for CM are full UI themes changing the whole look of your device making it feel fresh and new. The best part of the new CM12 theme chooser is the ability to use bits and pieces from multiple themes. If you like just the icons of a certain theme you don't have to sacrifice the wallpapers and bootanimation from another theme. You can just pull the icons only from the theme you want!

One of the newest CM12 themes released brings a super clean black and pink color scheme to your home screen. The theme by "Sarvesh Geetha" includes custom icons, themed features list, themed settings, themed quick settings, themed switches and toggles, themed check boxes, themed dialer, themed notifications, themed lockscreen, themed sliders, and more! Grab this theme for free from the link below.

Google seems to be pushing their All Access Subscription service for Google Music. I have been using this now for a few months, and have to say that I have not really found too many songs that were not available on the service. For the most part I am able to listen to anything I want. The best part about this service is that I am able to listen to entire albums, and for $9.99 a month you can't beat that. Most albums from my childhood cost anywhere between $10-$20!

Google wants you to try this service out, and they have sweetened their free trial deal by doubling it! For a limited time you can try it out for 60 days for free. There are over 30million songs included, oh and NO ADVERTISING!

Last month LG started shipping out preview devices to a handful of lucky phone enthusiasts. One such lucky guy was "Windroid" who has released a whole list of videos showcasing the stock customization options available on the LG G4!

The root community has always had customization options like this, but OEMs are starting to see the appeal. We have already seen Themeing options on other flagship devices like the GS6 and the M9. LG takes it a step further. Yes there are custom themeing options on the G4, but it also includes custom keyboard themes, custom fonts, custom navigation buttons, custom messaging themes, and custom lock screens.

With all these options it almost feels like you are running a custom rom! Head to the link below to view the whole playlist of videos. There is a video for each customization option.

If you love to root and mod your device then you know just how important an unlockable bootloader is. Some rom users have opted to use devices that aren't carrier branded just to avoid their devices bootloader being locked up. Others have turned to the Oasis which is the Nexus lineup. T-Mobile seems to be the go to carrier when it comes to hackable devices, but even some of their phones ship with a locked bootloader. Most of their devices can atleast be bootloader unlocked.

The LG G4 appears to be one such device. A photo shows the developer options of the LG G4, and inside the menu is the option to allow OEM unlock! If this bootloader is unlockable it will make rooting and installing roms super easy! I wouldn't count on the AT&T or Verizon versions including an unlockable bootloader, however developers made quick work of circumventing the bootloader and essentially unlocking it on the Verizon LG G3 last year!

Do you guys remember when we posted that intriguing rumor that Samsung was considering making "Avengers" themed Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge variants? That rumor is one step closer to reality. According to a report from the Korean Times, Lee Young-hee, head of marketing for Samsung's mobile division, the company is definitely planning at least an "Iron Man" edition of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Here's a quote with the details,

Supposedly Marvel and Samsung already made a...

Great news to those who own T-Mobile's variant of the Sony Xperia Z3 (D6616)! We now have root boys n' girls! The screenshot above is one I took after successfully rooting my D6616.

Back in November a bounty began for root for the Sony Xperia Z3 and a couple months later root was acheived for the Xperia Z3 using a method developed by XDA member zxz0O0. That said, the method did not work for the T-Mobile version of the Xperia Z3. This was due a locked bootloader and a patch for the exploit already included in the specific carrier variant’s firmware.

A bounty began specifically designed for the T-Mobile Xperia Z3 in February. And now, root has also been achieved for the D6616. Again, the exploit which gains the root privileges was found by zxz0O0 and working off the more general Z3 exploit.

Good news for you Verizon Z3V owners as well! This root exploit seems to work on the Sony Xperia Z3V as well.

Head over to the thread post on XDA here and be sure to read up. This post by GhostRaiderMX is what helped me the most as I achieved root on the first try.

It's tough for us to imagine that it will be very effective in a smartphone, but Vivo just announced their X5 Pro smartphone will come with a retinal scanner for security. It's interesting to note that this is not the first Android device to sport such technology. The ZTE Grand S3 holds that distinction.

Neither of these devices are likely coming to the US anytime soon, so there's little way to find out how effective the eyeball camera really is at differentiating your iris from another person or a picture. Still, it's interesting to see OEMs trying to implement this even if it turns out to be a gimmick for now. For interest's sale, here are more specs for the X5 Pro:
  • Snapdragon 615 SoC
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 6-inch display with 2.5D curved glass
  • 3200-3500mAh battery
As you can see, it's no slouch but is not exactly "top-of-the-line". That big battery is appealing. Let us know what you think of this foray into futuristic fancy tech.
