After posting rumors of a new Motorola smart phone we felt it was only right to post something new from HTC. Chris Ziegler @ Engadget Mobile has made our day with news of a new Android 2.1 smart phone headed to Verizon. The codename was discovered in a leaked rom from HTC, but it could be simply an internal codename used by the developers.

Regardless of the name, this is a good sign that a new Android 2.1 phone is on the way. Earlier information suggested the Phone would be called the HTC Passion, HTC Bravo or HTC Dragon and would have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz CPU equipped with a 3.5-inch multi-touch OLED display.

BGR reports today that the Motorola A55 Devour or also known as the Motorola Calgary could be the next Verizon Droid due for a release in early 2010. The Calgary was first introduced almost a year and ago and generated quite the Buzz. Lately rumors of this device have been almost non-existent. We thought this to be a "Mini-Droid" with an optical joystick, QWERTY keyboard, 3.5mm headset jack, GPS, digital magnetometer, Wi-Fi, microSD card slot and a spring-assisted slider. BGR says "The Devour will be the DROID’s little brother and is expected to arrive in early 2010 with Android 2.1, MOTOBLUR and a 3 megapixel camera" This appears to be more of an entry level phone from Motorola designed to compete with the HTC Eris price range.

Indaba Music is running a competition to see who can make a song utilizing only the built in sound samples of either the iPhone or the Droid. We need to get the word out there so the Droid community can represent!

If you've got any musical skills at all, putting together a remix right now is the way to show it. You can find out more about the program here:

Phone Wars! - Indaba Music

In addition, here are a few of the songs that have already been created:

David Breaux - Droid Remix
Unknown Citizen - DroidRock

(The DroidRock is my favorite, but be sure to check em all out and vote for your favorite)

Do you have an HTC Eris and feel left out from all the Motorola DROIDs getting OTA updates? Well fret no more because one for you is on the way.

Verizon just let us know that an OTA update for the HTC DROID Eris is being pushed to handsets at about midnight this evening. The ROM is 1.16.605.1 and the radio version is 2.32.40.11.09 for those inquiring minds. Just as Motorola’s OTA update worked, the DROID Eris will as well — slowly to a small group of people, then expanding over the coming days. Here’s a brief list of some of the fixes and you can always check the documentation on Verizon’s site.

  • While on a call and the device is in screensaver mode, pressing the End key now takes the device out of screensaver mode, and a second press will end the call.
  • On-call mute and speakerphone icon functionality is enhanced.
  • Upgraded functionality after activation eliminates the delay users were experiencing in receiving their first call.
  • Device now switches effectively from 1x mode to 3G.
  • Device no longer requires users to reselect a default email after power cycling.
  • SMS and MMS messaging delivery is improved.
  • Eighty-character MMS/SMS message subject lines are now allowed
  • Improved picture messaging functionality allows messages from LG phones to be opened.

Well, Time Magazine is either here to help you out or add salt to your wounds. They've released their Top 10 Everything of 2009 list and guess what's up top. That's right... the Motorola Droid is #1.

Thanks to SSHGuru for the tip and here is the original thread with the post:...

Before the Motorola Droid was released, discussions of rooting it were already in progress. 5 short weeks later and now it has been done! Zinx Verituse will be a name that goes down in history as the first to finally root the Droid. For more information, checkout our Droid Root discussion here: Droid Finally Rooted

For those that have no idea what I'm talking about, please take a look at the Droid Root FAQ and Warnings posted by Phamous: Droid Root FAQ
